Hello All!!

Our reunion is fast approaching; May will be here before you know it.   Well be in Huntsville, AL 4-8 May 20 to enjoy all the sites the city has to offer.  There are some early cutoff dates for the hotel and all so please, if you havent already, get your hotel reservations in and return your reunion registration form to Darwin.  There are three attachments to this newsletter that will provide you all the information required to make your reservations.

i do want to make a special note to thank Margaret Shute and Mary Beth DeVos.  These two young ladies volunteered to plan our reunion in Huntsville.  I can personally say that they stepped up and successfully took on the challenges of picking the hotel, locating tour locations, while always keeping in mind our members and our budget.  I wish to thank them both for all their work and time in planning out the reunion.   Because of you both, well have an outstanding time!!  Thank You!

As I said above, there are three attachments that provide all the information required to make your hotel reservations, reunion reservations, and a daily itinerary of the reunion events.  I will tell you that the hotel, Best Western Plus in Madison, AL was a standout among the hotels visited.  Its location is ideal, it is well kept, the amenities are all we could ask for, and our hospitality room is well suited for our requirements.  The tours planned for Saturday and Monday are well suited for our needs, with only a small amount of walking but on paved walk ways.  And I think our Memorial Service will be a very special one, with the location that has been picked out.

During this years Business Meeting, we will be voting on changes to our Associations By-Laws.  A committee made up of Chaplin Ron and the Board of Directors reviewed the By-Laws and provided updates that will do away with Associate Membership in favor of full Membership.  This change had been discussed as a way to increase active membership from all Members.  My hope is that with this change, we can bring on as full Members both family and friends.  They can then help build and continue our Association over the coming years as elected and appointed officials.  As it stands now, we have only a finite number of members, which sadly cannot continue to maintain our Association.  By opening up our full Membership to family and friends, we are taking that step to keep our Association active for many more years to come.   For me, Ive gotten so much back as a member and as an elected officer in the Association, finding new friends, renewing old friendships, the warmth of the Reunions, the stories shared between all!!   Please, think about taking on an Association position, do a web search for an old shipmate or two, just a little bit of time can make a difference.

All, be well and enjoy
